Big Honey Dog Mysteries: award-winning middle grade mystery series for children 8 to 12 years

HY+Honey+books-authorphoto4Hello and welcome to the world of Big Honey Dog Mysteries!

“…a delightful cast of characters, each with their own endearing personalities. With playful puns and creative twists on age-old clichés Hanna artfully addresses such moral topics as prejudice and stereotypes, gossip and rumors all rolled up into an page-turning mystery.” ~ Children’s Literary Classics

Action-packed and full of suspense and humour, while touching on issues important to kids 9 to 12 years old, these are the perfect middle grade read or a book for parents and children to enjoy together, as well as a great choice for middle school teachers and librarians.

Each book in the series can be read as a standalone:

  • A SECRET IN TIME (Book 2)
  • HOLIDAY MYSTERIES COLLECTION (Halloween, Christmas & Easter mysteries)

“Dog lovers young and old will love this rip-roaring, bark-serious adventure… highly recommended” ~ Midwest Book Review

“I’ve read a few books marketed for middle-grades or younger this year and I have to say that this is hands down the best suited for those ages. It has a great plot, some truly well-rounded characters (with more depth than what I find in most adult novels these days) and a climax that will keep you on the edge of your seat. Not only was this book highly entertaining but there are some great messages in it.”~ LitChick Hit List

“If you want to get your middle grade reader interested in picking up books, then this is a great place to start. ***** FIVE STARS “ ~ Net Galley.

As a beagle owner the beagle in this book fits to a tee. I felt like I was reading about my boy. That is how well she described the beagle. It is really good book , anyone could read this book and fall in love with the animals in this book.

Great to see an Aussie author bringing vitality into the children’s market.
I was tickled to read in a recent review about ‘peemail’ to describe when dogs do their thing as they pass bushes, trees and interesting clumps of grass. As the author of the Doffie The Dog stories I can say the H. Y. Hanna is into her dog’s mind. I know several Great Danes and now I am starting to understand their thinking. The expression “Oh my Dog!” was also a nice touch. Keep it up! NeiL

‘Oh my Dog’, I knew that Honey and Hsin-Yi were winners right from the beginning and now this great book! Yay! Amazing!

    Hi Hsin-Yi,
What a cool idea to have the dog’s show how much they love Honey’s book. Like I said, I wish I had my Honey Dog book with me when Mikey the Greyhound was sick. He would have loved the story time, and it would have been a lovely distraction having me read a story to him and of course take a picture or two of him being read to. I think he might have been sensitive with the big snake bites to his face and the huge body bloat. I hope to be in Arizona in June and will get pictures of Mikey with his book. I worry he will get boogies on it. His nose runs due to the Columbian Mesquite tress that seem to make his nose run constantly. You have a great looking group of canine and feline readers. Dogs are smart and have discerning taste when it comes to reading material.

Hi, I know I haven’t been in touch for a while, but I still try and follow what you are doing and am so pleased that your books are going well – I shall catch up this coming winter. Things have been a bit hectic and stressful since I lost Candy at Christmas – the rescue lurcher has been great and I collect my new Dane puppy next week – so I am a bit excited to say the least. I miss your Honey blog but still try and catch up on her former posts. Hope all goes well with you and Paul and of course Muesli. Take care now and all the very best. xxx

    • H.Y. Hanna says:

Belated thank you again for your lovely comment, Madeleine – I hope that things are going well for you and that time is healing some of the pain of losing Candy. You must be having your hands full with your new puppy! 🙂 But I’m sure it’s all good fun – hope the dogs are enjoying each other’s company. Take care!

    • H.Y. Hanna says:

Aw, thank you, Sam – I’m so pleased you enjoyed them! 🙂 I’ll be releasing a special Halloween edition soon – and then a new full novel right before Christmas! Thanks so much for taking the time to write – I really appreciate it! 😀

  7. Melissa says:

I have had computer problems and have not been online for what feels like forever! Thank you for posting Sheba’s picture ‘reading’ Honey’s Halloween adventure! Even though I am an adult, I still enjoy Honey’s adventures! I also look forward to reading your other books! Thank you again!

    • H.Y. Hanna says:

Oh, you’re very welcome, Melissa! 🙂 I’m so sorry – I’ve been meaning to email you too to let you know that I’d put the picture of Sheba up but hadn’t got around to it yet. You beat me to it! 😉 And thank you for your kind words and support as always!

      best wishes,

  8. Hi Hsin Yi, It has been a long time since I sent you a post. I was just watching a Collie dancing and it reminded me of my HOney dog.
I was so impressed and proud to see all the awards you have received for your Honey Dog Mysteries. You have definitely had the writing bug. I can not believe how many books you have published to date. Such an amazing compliment. I have not been able to locate the old website with all of Honey’s videos and pictures. I have been in the mood to go down memory lane and spend time with Honey. Honey had a way of lifting my spirits. I really feel like I knew her and you.
Hope you, Paul and Musili are well.

when will we get our next instalment from Honey? I love the stories but it has been so long since we’ve heard from her ;-((((

  10. Alice H Milam says:

My 9 year old granddaughter is just beginning to love reading (she gets that from her Nana and her Dad lol)! I’ve been reading your books on my Kindle for a while. So when I saw you have a young people’s collection I thought she might be interested! She’s delighted but wants a Kindle for Christmas and wants me to ask if you will ever be putting this collection on Kindle? If not I’ll still get them for her in paperback since I think she should continue to read books as well! I’m on you email list so I’ll keep an eye out for the next book! In the meantime thanks for helping my beauty enjoy reading something besides emojis

    • H.Y. Hanna says:

Thank you, Alice, for your lovely message! How wonderful that you’re passing on your love of reading to your granddaughter.
